Management

St. peter’s is Managed by a Principal and a team four Vice Principals. In this institution each section of the school has two Vice Principals assisting the Principal. One is assigned tasks related to Academic Matters and the other attends to Pastoral Affairs in the two sections of the school respectively.

Academic Matters cover the following: -

1. Subject Departments

2. Curriculum Departments

3. Timetabling

4. Examinations

5. Student Academic Performance

6. Teaching and Learning Activities

7. Research Work

Pastoral Affairs include inter alias: -

1. Staffing - - Class Masters/Mistresses; Year or Block Masters/Mistresses

2. Student behaviour/discipline

3. Student welfare – i.e. sponsorship, health

4. Sports

5. Family Life Education

6. Guidance and counselling

7. Religious services

The rest of the teaching staff is assigned tasks that overlap (in some cases) the duties of these two. In essence, therefore, the four Vice Principals have to interact with every member of staff during the course of the execution of their duties.

The teacher as an educator has the dual role of parent and teacher, and therefore must attend to both the academic and pastoral needs of the students. The creation of the two Vice Principals in each component of the school enhances the efficiency of the administration in giving timely feedback and monitoring activities and programmes draw up.

The Senior Management Team (SMT)(Heads of Department and Senior Masters) is another addition to ensure that power is not concentrated in one person but is shared among members of the team. Part of the responsibilities of the Vice principals is delegated to members of the Senior Management Team. Members of the SMT meet once a month to discuss the implementation of policies and to make decisions about follow up activities. One of its most important functions is monthly review of the administration and activities of the school.

Apart from the Senior Management Team, monitoring of activities go on at the Department and Committee levels. Thus the machinery is in place to maintain the communication flow to and from all possible directions.

The organized structure can be perceived as a linking pin that is constantly kept together, where team spirit and motivation of members are given top priority amidst a disciplined and an atmosphere conducive to both learning and work.
